Pachinko-An American style K-Drama based on an international bestseller by Min Jin Lee turned into an epic and intimate family saga for Apple TV+. It spans four generations of beautiful and heartbreaking stories that shape the lives of a Korean immigrant family.
The story revolves around Kim Sun-ja (Academy Award winner, Youn Yuh-jung as an older Sun-ja) who was born and raised in Korea. As a teenager, she falls in love with the mysterious and powerful Koh Han-su (heartthrob Lee Min-ho from Boys Over Flowers and Heirs). Due to a series of events, she moves to Japan and experiences the hardship of living in a hostile land as she tries to establish her own way of belonging. Life is a gamble…sometimes you win and sometimes you lose.
In Japan, millions are addicted to a gambling parlor game called pachinko that resembles a vertical pinball machine, but I found myself addicted to the deeply emotional TV series. I will watch it again while waiting for season two.
