In the film “The Cut,” Orlando Bloom plays a boxer who is desperate to lose weight before a fight. Under the guidance of a dubious coach, played by John Turturro, Bloom goes to extreme measures to shed pounds, even if it endangers his health. In preparation for the role, Bloom himself lost an astonishing 52 pounds in just three months. Bloom discussed the physical transformation he underwent for the film, explaining that he gradually reduced his food intake over a three-month period until he reached his lowest weight just before filming began. He started at 185 pounds and dropped down. Losing such a significant amount of weight was mentally challenging for him. He remarked, “You feed somebody tuna and cucumber long enough…” indicating the strictness of his diet during that time. The focus is not solely on the sport but also on the intense journey the boxer goes through to achieve his desired weight. Bloom’s dedication to his role is evident in the dramatic weight loss he underwent, making his portrayal even more compelling.
