Breaking news, President Biden has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, he has been forced to cancel a scheduled speech to a Latino advocacy group in Las Vegas. The announcement of his diagnosis was made by UnidosUS president Janet Murguía on stage, leaving attendees wondering why the President was running late. Just before his positive test was disclosed, Biden had taped a radio interview with Univision, set to air the following day.
The President had been actively engaging with the public before his diagnosis. He had even visited a Mexican restaurant in Nevada, where he took several selfies with Nevadans. This raises concerns about potential exposure to the virus. Biden had previously tested positive for COVID-19 in July 2022 but had thankfully recovered without needing hospitalization.
Unfortunately for President Biden, his recent performance in the June 27 debate against former President Donald Trump has placed him under intense scrutiny. Fellow Democrats are calling on him to step aside due to his repeated confusion and puzzling remarks during the debate, such as claiming to have “finally beat Medicare.” Biden attributed his poor performance to a cold, even though he took no precautions to prevent the spread of the virus and immediately visited an Atlanta-area Waffle House after the debate.
It’s important to note that former President Trump had also contracted COVID-19 in 2020, before vaccines and less-lethal strains became more prevalent. The risk of serious illness and death from the respiratory virus is especially high among the elderly.
