In a recent interview with Billboard, Luke Bryan opened up about which stars were being considered to replace Perry. However, he also revealed that there’s a chance he and Lionel Richie might not be returning for the new season either. It seems that Disney has been keeping things tightly under wraps, and Bryan, Richie, and host Ryan Seacrest haven’t heard any concrete information about who’s coming back.
If Bryan and Richie do decide to return, Bryan shared that they might be seated next to one of the three A-listers he mentioned in a previous interview with ET. Pink, Miley Cyrus, and Meghan Trainor are all in talks to potentially join the show as judges. Pink mentioned earlier this year that she didn’t feel like it was the right fit for her, while Trainor expressed her excitement and called it her “ultimate bucket list dream come true.”
Whoever replaces Katy Perry will certainly have big shoes to fill, as Bryan acknowledges. Perry was a perfect fit for the job, and now the show’s producers are working hard to find someone who can bring that same energy and authenticity.
Perry herself has spoken about who she would like to see replace her. She hopes for someone fearless, someone who isn’t afraid to speak their mind. In her words, “someone a little polarizing just like myself.” She believes that having a point of view and not winning over everyone is actually a good thing.
