Apple just announced “Apple Intelligence” at their Worldwide Developers Conference. It’s a suite of AI features that will be available for the iPhone, Mac, and more. With this update, Apple is introducing a more conversational Siri, custom AI-generated “Genmoji,” and access to GPT-4o for Siri to use OpenAI’s chatbot when needed. It seems like Apple is catching up with the table-stakes features that other tech companies have already implemented.
Learn More About Apple Intelligence
One of the significant improvements with Apple Intelligence is its ability to take action for you in apps. For instance, it can manage your notifications, automatically write text or summaries in your emails, and even reference one app to carry out an action in another. Just imagine asking Siri to play a podcast your partner sent you. And of course, Apple prioritizes privacy, so all AI processing will be done on-device. Plus, Apple’s “Private Cloud” ensures that any data that needs to go to the cloud will be securely stored and Apple won’t have access to it.
Speaking of Siri, Apple has also enhanced its AI capabilities. In iOS 18, Siri will be able to understand you better and respond more naturally. You’ll even have the option to type to Siri instead of speaking. Siri will be able to set up scheduled text messages and understand the context of your requests. You can now ask Siri to perform actions within apps, like making a photo pop or sending a photo to a friend. Siri will also have “on-screen awareness,” meaning it can search your photos and extract specific information, like your driver’s license number, and automatically fill out web forms for you.
Apple is also introducing new writing features to the Apple ecosystem. You can now have Siri write your emails and even customize the tone. These writing features will be available systemwide, wherever you can type. Additionally, Apple is rolling out “Genmoji,” an AI-generated emoji-like reaction feature. When you can’t find the right emoji, Genmoji will create one for you on the fly.
These updates are promising to enhance your experience and make your daily tasks easier. So, get ready to elevate your Apple experience with these innovative new AI features coming later this year.
